Our Mixed 2 team played their last home game of the season last night and secured a resounding 9-0 victory against Wanlip Mixed 1.
This means the Mixed 2 team finish the season with a perfect home record at Rolleston. This is in stark contrast to the team’s away form; Mixed 2 haven’t won an away game all season, but are hoping for better luck in the return game against Wanlip at Babington. Thanks go to the team of Carole & Lee, Kate & Jed and Hope & Steve for their efforts. The return game against Wanlip Mixed 1 is on Wednesday 22nd April. On Thursday last week, our Ladies team lost 4-5 against Meltonshire Ladies 1 in division 2. Meltonshire Ladies conceded three rubbers, but were still too strong, despite a spirited display from Croakers Ladies. The next game is against South Leicestershire Ladies 2 on Thursday 2nd April.
On Friday, our New Hall team beat Loughborough New Hall without even lifting a racquet. The match was conceded by Loughborough earlier in the day, therefore gifting Croakers the win. The next and last game of the season is against Birstall on Friday 17th April. Croakers' New Hall team were pushed hard by a determined Hermitage Lakeside team last night, but came away with an 11-7 victory.
Our New Hall team beat Hermitage Lakeside 18-0 back in February, but with a changed side and plastic shuttles, Hermitage Lakeside provided tougher opposition this time around. Both of the men’s pairings split their games, with the ladies’ pairings losing all of their games. At this stage, Croakers were losing 2-6 and it was looking slightly ominous. However, Croakers managed to win all but one of the mixed games to seal the victory. Thanks go to the team of Carole, Kate, Nicole, Lee, Jed and Henri for their efforts. The next game is against Loughborough on Friday 27th March. Mixed 1 played their last game of the season on Monday and narrowly lost 4-5 to South Leicestershire.
Every rubber was a hard fight and, after winning two rubbers, Alex & Henri could not quite finish off and lost the decider. Caroline & Raheel and Ayesha & David won one rubber each. The highlight of the evening was the banana and chocolate cake specially baked by our team captain Alex to celebrate the end of the season. Mixed 1 finishes with 6 wins and 4 losses. Well done to the team for their efforts this year. Croakers' Mixed 2 team are still searching for their first away victory this season as they lost 4-5 to Leicester University Mixed 2 last night.
The Mixed 2 team won 5-4 against Leicester University in the home fixture last week, but were unable to repeat the performance in another close contest. Carole & Lee won two out of three rubbers along with Kate & Steve. Unfortunately, Susannah & Alex were unable to win any rubbers, though not through lack of trying and their last rubber was a nail biter. Bad luck, team. The last home game of the season at ‘Fortress’ Rolleston is against Wanlip Mixed 1 on Monday 30th March. The latest updates to the League tables have been released and are available to view below. Links to the most recent division reports can also be found on the home page.
Our Mixed 2 team continued their good home form last night and won 5-4 against Leicester University Mixed 2 in a close contest.
Carole & Lee managed to win all three rubbers, ably supported by Kate & Jed and Susannah & Peter who both won a rubber each. The two rubbers Kate & Jed lost could so easily have resulted in wins, the opposition were taken to three close games in both rubbers. Susannah & Peter also had very close games and, on another day, the outcome might have been different. The Mixed 2 team will now be aiming to carry over their good home form into an away game. The next game is the return match against Leicester University Mixed 2 on Tuesday 17th March. The unbeaten run continues for our New Hall team in division 3, with home and away victories against Wanlip over the last couple of weeks. The away game, played on Monday 2nd March, was won 14-4. The team was composed of Kate, Samira, Lia, Steve, Raza and Alex. The home game, played last night, was won 18-0. This victory was made all the easier as Wanlip forgot to turn up. The team was composed of Samira, Ayesha, Nicole, David, Henri and Raheel. To cap an interesting night, Raheel got his legs out! According to Henri, Raheel's long suffering men's doubles partner, it's been almost five years since they've seen the artificial light of a badminton hall. The next game is against Hermitage Lakeside on Monday 23rd March. After a cruel 5-4 defeat last week against Central Leicester, losing Ayesha through injury, our Mixed 1 team is back on track with a valuable win against Melton OGs yesterday. The team, composed of Alex & Henri, Caroline & Raheel and Carole & Lee, won 6-3 in an intense battle. Well done to the team.
