On Monday last week, our Ladies team lost 2-7 against a strong Leicester University Ladies 1 team.
Samira & Ayesha were the only pair to win any rubbers, winning two out of three. Unfortunately, Jing & Claire were unable to win a rubber, along with Carole & Judith. Caroline, the team captain, was recovering from knee surgery and unable to play. This was the last match of the season. The match against Ashby Ladies that was postponed on the 24th March could not be rearranged and has been conceded by Ashby. It's been a tough season for Caroline and her Ladies team, who finish with a record of 4 wins and 8 losses. Thank you to everyone who played this season. Here's hoping the team's fortunes change next season. The Ladies team won 5-4 against Melton OGs Ladies 1 last night, putting their recent troubles behind them with a determined performance.
Samira & Ayesha played brilliantly, winning all three rubbers in two games. Kate & Jing also played really well, beating Melton OGs first and third pairs. They lost to the second pair in three close games, losing 19-21 in the decider. Carole & Judith fought hard and played well too, but lost all three rubbers. Caroline, the team captain, was unable to play due to an ongoing knee injury. It's been a frustrating few months for Caroline and her Ladies team, with three out of the last four matches conceded. However, the team played brilliantly to beat the division leaders and shows that despite their position in the table, they can compete with the best teams. Well done, Ladies. The next scheduled match is against Leicester University Ladies 1 on Monday 25th April. Yesterday's match between Croakers Ladies and Loughborough Ladies 2 was conceded by Croakers.
The Ladies team continues to struggle this season with an increasingly small pool of players available to play. The away match scheduled for Thursday this week (24th March) against Ashby Ladies 1 has been cancelled and is to be rearranged. The next scheduled match is against Melton OG Ladies 1 on Monday 11th April. This season continues to be an eventful one for the Ladies team, with no play in the last three matches due to concessions.
On Thursday, the Ladies team ended a run of poor results and bad luck with a comfortable 9-0 victory against Wanlip Ladies 1.
This is a positive finish to 2015 and should help boost the team’s ambitions for 2016. The team consisted of Ayesha & Caroline, Jing & Claire and Samira & Carole. The next match is against Loughborough Ladies 2 on Thursday 11th February. The Ladies team lost 3-6 against Leicester University Ladies 1 last night.
Caroline & Ayesha lost to Leicester University’s first pair, who were very good and won all three of their rubbers. Unfortunately, Caroline injured her knee during the first game of the second rubber. It was a close game, but Caroline couldn't continue after twisting her knee and as a result, had to concede the second and third rubbers. Jing & Kate played really well, winning two out of three rubbers. Samira & Claire played well too. They won one rubber and just missed out making it two at the end. Their final rubber was played over three close games, losing 18-21 in the deciding game. Chin up, team. There’s enough time to get fit and healthy before the next match, which is at home against Wanlip Ladies 1 on Thursday 17th December. On Thursday last week, the Ladies team had to concede their match against Melton OG Ladies 1 following a venue mix-up.
Two thirds of the Ladies team thought the match was a home fixture and travelled to Brockington College instead of Longfield School, where the match was taking place. Oops. The next match is away at Leicester University Ladies 1 on Sunday 6th December. On Thursday last week, the Ladies team secured a 7-2 victory against Huncote Ladies 1 in division 3.
After the frustration of losing a winnable match last time around against Ashby Ladies 1, narrowly losing 4-5 with only two pairs available, it was important that Croakers' Ladies fielded a full team. Caroline & Ayesha were the star performers, winning all three rubbers. Samira & Judith won two out of three rubbers along with Susannah & Claire. Hopefully, the Ladies team can continue to field a full team for the rest of the season. The next match is against Melton OG Ladies 1 on Thursday 19th November. Croakers' Ladies team played their first match of the new season last night, narrowly losing 4-5 to Ashby Ladies 1 in division 3. This was despite the Ladies team only being able to field two pairs.
Ayesha & Caroline took Ashby's first pair to three close games with hard fought rallies throughout, but unfortunately lost the final game 20-22. Ashby's first pair were by far their strongest pair and Ayesha & Caroline beat the second and third pairs convincingly. Sam & Kate played well too, beating Ashby's second and third pairs easily, but they also succumbed to the first pair. Caroline, the team captain, said, "Not the best start to the season, but everyone played well, giving us hope when we have a full team." The next match is against Huncote Ladies 1 on Thursday 5th November. |
