On Monday, the Mixed 1 team conceded their final match against Huncote Mixed 1, preventing the opportunity to finish a disappointing season on a high.
The match was essentially a dead rubber as the Mixed 1 team were already relegated, following a loss to Huncote in the away fixture. However, the team were aiming to finish the season on a positive note and win the final match. Unfortunately, a number of ladies had to drop out of the fixture, leaving Jed no choice but to concede the match. This result leaves Mixed 1 with an unenviable record of 0 wins and 8 losses. Commiserations to Jed and his Mixed 1 team, hopefully they can bounce back next season and win promotion. The latest updates to the League tables have been released and are available to view below. Links to the most recent division reports can also be found on the home page.
Since its launch, Croakers' website has received over 23k page views, which is pretty impressive for a small badminton club.
The website has helped promote Croakers to a wider audience and has played a key role in helping to recruit new members during the last twelve months. A number of these new recruits have already contributed to a successful Mens 2 campaign this season. Lee, who designed and administers the website, said, “When asking guests where they heard about Croakers, it’s always pleasing to hear that they contacted us via our website. It just goes to show how useful a website can be to any sports club, large or small.” The website also provides a hub for club members to access the fixture list, division reports, match reports and club news. Here’s to another successful twelve months. Please get in touch with one of our committee members if you have any comments or suggestions for the website. On Monday, the Mixed 2 team won 6-3 against Longslade Stoneygate Mixed 4, edging closer to promotion with two matches left to play.
This result extends the team's unbeaten run to six wins from six and means they only need to win one of their remaining two matches to secure promotion. The team was composed of Ayesha & Henri, Caroline & Raheel and Carole & David. All of the pairs won two rubbers each, with Ayesha & Henri losing their first rubber of the season. Henri, the team captain, said in his defence, "I would put this down to being jet lagged, flying back from the US on the same day (landing at Heathrow at 4pm for a match starting at 7pm). I could not focus properly on important points." Henri went on to say, "Great team effort and result for Mixed 2 and, with only two matches left to play, we can seriously consider winning division 4." The next match is against South Leicestershire Mixed 4 on Friday 26th February. On Monday last week, the Mens 2 team won their latest match 6-3 in the return fixture against Loughborough Mens 4.
This made it seven wins from seven and proved to be the most challenging. Trevor, the team captain, said, "An injury to Martin halfway through the match left us with a slender 4-3 lead going into the final two rubbers. Fortunately we were able to win both and maintain our unbeaten run." Joel & Kam won all three rubbers, Jitesh & Trevor won two and Martin & Steve won one. This victory guarantees promotion from division 6b with a match to spare. Well done, team! The next and final match of an outstanding season is against Birstall Mens 1 on Wednesday 24th February. The Mens 2 team will be hoping to finish the season off in style and stay unbeaten. On Friday last week, our New Hall team lost 5-15 against Loughborough Leys New Hall 1 in division 2.
David, the team captain, said, "We lost fair and square to the stronger team, but we did ourselves proud. The whole team played well." The team was composed of Samira, Ayesha, Claire, David, Raheel and Alex. The next match is against Hermitage Lakeside New Hall 1 on Friday 18th March. On Monday, the Mens 2 team won 8-1 against Loughborough Mens 4, virtually guaranteeing promotion from division 6b.
The team's night was made all the easier as Loughborough Mens 4 only fielded two pairs. Their first pair managed to take all three of their rubbers to three games, finally managing to win the final rubber of the night 22-20 in the deciding game against Mustafa & Trevor. The other pairs were Joel & Kam and Martin & Steve who won all their rubbers. The team now boast an impressive record of six wins from six with only two matches left to play. The next match is the return fixture against Loughborough Mens 4 on Monday 1st February. January is here and we have reached the halfway point of the season. Let's take a look at the latest League division reports and see how our teams are progressing.
Croakers' New Hall team was handed another win as Meltonshire New Hall 2 conceded Friday's match. That means Meltonshire has conceded both matches this season, gifting our New Hall team two wins and 40 points. That's very generous and gratefully accepted.
The next match is against Loughborough Leys New Hall 1 on Friday 29th January. Croakers' Mens 1 team lost 1-8 against a solid Meltonshire Mens 2 team last night, ending their good start to the season.
David & Lee were the only pair to win a rubber, beating Meltonshire’s first round pair comfortably. Unfortunately, they couldn’t maintain their performance level and lost to the second and third round pairs. Both Henri & Raheel and Alex & Jitesh were unable to win a rubber, although they scrapped bravely. The players know they will need to improve when they play Meltonshire in the return fixture. The next match is against Oadby Mens 1 on Monday 29th February. |
